Provide First Aid

Information about this unit:

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Specific licensing requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.

Target audience:

Those who are required to provide an emergency first aid response in a workplace.

Prerequisite:

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Award issued:

• HLTAID003 Provide first aid
• HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Initial Course duration:

• Mixed Mode: Completion of pre-course study plus approx. 6 hours practical training

Course Requirements:

It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

Recertification Requirements:

It is recommended this unit (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid) be renewed every 3 years in line with industry standards.

It is recommended that the CPR component (HLTAID001 Provide CPR) be renewed annually.
